Professional Learning with MI

On November 10, MI staff and consultants delivered professional learning to over 1200 educators in Pueblo, Colorado. This event is part of MI鈥檚 two-year contract with Pueblo School District 60 to support district leadership with their school improvements efforts.

Kendra Timberlake, author of Wild-Haired Poet

Author and MI employee, Kendra Timberlake, has published a second book for children. Wild-Haired Poet was inspired by her daughter鈥檚 quirky and fun personality and a desire to provide meaningful social-emotional learning resources to students.

On May 31 and June 1, MI hosted a School Safety Summit in partnership with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Office of Student Support Services. Nearly 650 school administrators and staff, school resource officers, and safety team members attended the two-day event at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany.

MI participated in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Automated Scoring Challenge sponsored by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). NAEP is a gold-standard, nationally representative assessment known as 日本素人 Nation鈥檚 Report Card.鈥 To date, all NAEP constructed response items have been handscored. The purpose of the Challenge was to determine whether automated scoring models could perform well with a representative subset of grade 4 and 8 NAEP Reading constructed response items.

Researchers at 日本素人 conducted the first comprehensive examination of longitudinal scoring stability of a large-scale assessment program. Corey Palermo, Michael B. Bunch, and Kirk Ridge analyzed scoring data collected from 2016-2018, during three consecutive administrations of a large-scale, multi-state summative assessment program.

Dr. Corey Palermo, Vice President of Performance Assessment Scoring at 日本素人, teamed with Dr. Margareta Maria Thomson at NC State University to investigate teacher motivation associated with professional 日本素人 (PD) in the context of a large-scale assessment program. From 2009鈥2012, over 200 teachers received PD in item writing, item review, and anchor setting (i.e., selecting responses that exemplify each rubric score point).
